Father’s Day is coming up fast (Sunday, June 19, 2016) and if your dad is a golfer, then we have some great gift suggestions for you! Golf gear is constantly improving, from shoes, clubs and accessories, there always seems to be a new toy out there that a golfer needs in their life.
Take a look at our 2016 Father’s Day Gift Guide in the list below – make sure to let us know what you think or what you’ve decided to get for your dad in the comments below!
Bushnell TourV4 and TourV4 Slope Edition
The first accessory that we are recommending is the Bushnell TourV4 Slope laser rangefinder. The Tour V4 and Tour V4 Slope Edition are faster than their predecessor, 30% smaller and more ergonomically designed to increase the ease and accuracy in acquiring yardages. The Tour V4 Slope Edition uses patented, Tour trusted technology to provide compensated distances for elevation changes. The Slope Edition is even legal in USGA events and tournament play, so long as the slope function is turned off.
The Tour V4 and Tour V4 Slope Edition rangefinders feature PinSeeker with JOLT technology, yardages accurate to within a yard, five to 1,000 yard range (400 yards to a flag), 5x magnification, rain proof and an industry leading two-year warranty. It retails for USD $299 – $399 and will definitely help dad shoot lower scores. The Bushnell NEO Ghost and Bushnell NEO iON are great alternatives as well – both are lightweight and portable GPS rangefinders that won’t break the bank. They retail for USD $99.99 and USD $199.99 respectively.
A Club Fitting
We can’t stress enough the importance of having a player get fit for their golf clubs. In Vancouver, we recommend paying Modern Golf (located in Richmond) a visit. We’ve gone through the Modern Golf experience before and were amazing at what a fitting could do for our games. More consistency, tighter dispersion and of course, more distance.
With a brand agnostic approach, you can be sure that Modern Golf will set you up with the best equipment that suits your swing and your game and help you shoot lower scores. A full bag fitting at Modern Golf costs CAD $400 and is four hours long! Find out more about the different custom fitting options they offer here.
Golf Shoes
The Adidas Golf TOUR360 BOOST represents the next generation in the TOUR360 franchise. The original TOUR360, introduced in 2005, was one of the first golf shoes we ever purchased at Eighteen Under Par and one that we enjoyed wearing a lot. Building on 10 years of innovation, TOUR360 BOOST incorporates the latest footwear technologies, including fulllength BOOST™ cushioning, an improved 360WRAP, and a dual-density 10-cleat puremotion® TPU outsole to deliver the next advancement in this iconic, game-changing franchise. The TOUR360 BOOST retails for USD $200.
For those who want a more traditional look, Adidas Golf also offers the beautiful AdiPure TP. It features elegant lines, modern classic silhouettes, premium leather and an innovative low profile outsoles for the optimal combination of beauty and performance. The AdiPure TP retails for USD $250.
Other companies have also come out with some great shoes this season and for the sneakerhead dad’s out there, the Nike Golf Lunar Force 1G or Nike Golf Flyknit Chukka might be right up their alley. These are your more casual, lifestyle golf shoes that are not only great on the golf course, but also off the golf course as well. The Lunar Force 1G and Flyknit Chukka retail for USD $140 and USD $190 respectively. Another favourite of ours is from the “#1 Shoe in Golf,” the FootJoy DNA’s, which retail for USD $220.
Golf Apparel and Accessories
As summer approaches and we play more golf under the heat of the sun, we’re always looking for ways to stay cool and comfortable. That is where the Adidas Golf Ultimate Short comes in. We can confidently say that adidas Golf has released some of the most comfortable shorts in the market with this collection. You’ll feel the difference immediately when you try them on.
The adidas Ultimate Short features a stretch waistband for mobility and comfort, silicone adidas printed gripper to keep shirts tucked in, micro-mesh pocket bags for secure storage and airflow, moisture-wicking stretch fabrication to keep you cool and for full range of motion and water resistant finish for easy care and durability. The adidas Ultimate Short is extremely lightweight, comfortable and unlike any other golf short on the market. Depending on the style, the Adidas Golf Ultimate Short retails from USD $65 to $75.
We also recommend the Galvin Green Ventil8 range of polos, trousers, shorts and skorts engineered for superior moisture management in excessive heat. Ventil8 garments are crafted from textile fibers that draw moisture away from the body and disperse it over a large area to promote rapid evaporation. Working in concert with this ultralight material are ventilation panels for maximum air flow. Additional characteristics include a UV protection rating of 20+ and permanent antibacterial features for exceptional odor control.
For accessories, look no further than the Ace Of Clubs Golf Company from Seattle, Washington. They create and design unique genuine leather golf club headcovers, putter grips, yardage books, belts and custom accessories. These products feature a variety of alligator, ostrich, crocodile, lizard, python and standard leather designs – an exotic look without the exotic price.
Last year, we featured their blue crocodile leather belt and brushed silver belt buckle as well as a limited edition Augusta green alligator leather yardage book. Most recently, they’ve introduced a line of classic full grain leather belts as well, for the golfers that want a bit more subtle style on the golf course. All of the products can be easily taken off the golf course as well.
Golf Equipment
In regards to golf equipment, this relates back to our previous suggestion of a club fitting. Having said that, we love the Titleist SM6 wedges for this year and have a pair of them in our bags for this season. Pair those wedges up with some of the best feeling irons on the market with Mizuno Golf.
The one club that we’ve been very impressed with through testing this year (and haven’t heard any bad feedback on) is the TaylorMade Golf M2 (un)fairway wood. The M2 fairway woods use a multi-material carbon crown. A shallow head design delivers versatile playability and higher shots while the new, fluted hosel design provides superior sound and feel without compromising distance.
A new, completely redesigned Speed Pocket significantly increases the flexibility of the low club face area; the most flexible Speed Pocket the company has ever designed. The increase in low face flexibility translates into a higher COR, which results in higher ball speed for shots struck low on the face. This is primarily achieved by creating more flexibility in the Speed Pocket. The TaylorMade M2 fairway wood retails for USD $249.99.
