The PGA TOUR heads to the TPC Four Season Resort this week for the 2016 AT&T Byron Nelson Championship. In 2015, the course yielded the third least amount of birdies to the field and has consistently ranked inside the top-20 toughest golf course on the PGA TOUR. Dallas native Jordan Spieth will look to capture his first victory in the Lonestar state as 12 past major champions grace the field as well as defending champion, Steven Bowditch.
The 32-year-old Australian earned his second PGA TOUR title here last year that led to a place on the International team at the Presidents Cup and entry into all major championships and WGC events. However, he has struggled mightily this season – in his 15 appearances, Bowditch has made just seven cuts and has posted as many rounds in the 80s (nine) as the 60s. His scoring average of 74.58 ranks 196th of the 197 players eligible.
His play has been plagued by a wrist injury (a combination of tendonitis and cysts) as well as mouth pain. He underwent a two-month period during which he endured five root canals and three tooth extractions! Hopefully, returning to a familiar place where he has had positive vibes will turn his season around. Bowditch married his wife, Amanda, at TPC Four Season Resort in 2011, lives nearby in Flower Mound, Texas, and won here last year.
