Many consider the PLAYERS Championship to be golf’s fifth major given the strength of its field. This week, 144 of the world’s best players will battle it out at TPC Sawgrass in hopes of hoisting the Waterford crystal trophy this Sunday.
Last year, Rickie Fowler put on a show as he caught fire towards the end of the tournament. In the last six holes, Rickie shot 6-under par to force an eventual playoff with Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner. He would end up winning the PLAYERS Championship in the fourth playoff hole, and the victory would end up serving as a springboard for a strong rest of the year, which included another victory at the 2015 Deutsche Bank Championship.
Rickie Fowler has struggled this season so far. Last week, he had the lead going into the final round at the 2016 Wells Fargo Championship but failed to close out the tournament after shooting a 2-over 74 on Sunday. Perhaps, the PLAYERS Championship will kick start Rickie’s season again. In the video above, we reflect back on last year’s memorable tournament and preview what we can expect this week at Ponte Verda Beach, Florida!
