Golf returns to the Summer Olympic Games this year for the first time since 1904. Although golf is growing in the Asia region, there are concerns about the future growth of the sport. It is hoped that with the reintroduction of golf to the Summer Olympics, this will change and as a matter of fact, we are already starting to see trickle down effects.
After exploring the Rio Olympic Golf Course in part I, Shane O’Donoghue travels to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in Lausanne, Switzerland, and speaks with Olympic Games Executive Director, Christophe Dubi. He also drops by the IGF (International Golf Federation, the governing body in charge of golf in the Olympics, and learn how the format of golf was determined for Rio.
All in all, there is a certain level of excitement with golf returning to the Summer Olympics. Although critics are skeptical of its success in Rio, both the IOC and IGF are confident that the sport will ensure a lasting golfing legacy for the future generation.
