There has been a lot of talk in regards to golf returning to the Olympic Games in Rio this summer. Unfortunately, negative news have been dominating the headlines, with some of the world’s top players opting to skip the event.
This month, Shane O’Donoghue and CNN Living Golf visits the headquarters of the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in Lausanne, Switzerland, to speak with the people in charge of showcasing golf on sports’ biggest stage. But in part I of the series, we first look at the Gil Hanse-designed Rio Olympic Golf Course as well as the only municipal golf course in Brazil, Japeri Golf Club.
The construction of the Rio Olympic Golf Course was delayed by many challenges. However, Gil Hanse and his team overcame these obstacles to build the golf course on time. It had its first test event among the best Brazilian golfers a few weeks ago and it came back with raved reviews.
