Another Masters is in the books and 2016 Masters Champion Danny Willett becomes just the second Englishman to win the green jacket. Going into the final round, most of us thought defending champion Jordan Spieth would go on to defend his title in another wire-to-wire victory.
A combination of Danny Willett playing great golf and unfortunate mistakes by Spieth in the back 9 changed the narrative completely and perhaps, it could be all due to fate. It was stated in the Masters broadcast that Danny would’ve missed the Masters had his son, Zachariah James Willett, not been born 12 days before his due date on Masters Sunday (April 10).
Aside from the early arrival of his son, the conclusion of Masters Sunday (April 11 in the UK) is also Danny’s wife’s birthday. This is in addition to celebrating their wedding anniversary in April as well! All in all, April has been a fantastic month for Danny Willett and now, there’s just one more reason to celebrate. In the ESPN interview above, we hear Danny recall his final round at Augusta and all the emotions that he was going through. We also hear Danny talk about how “bonkers” the month of April has been for him.
