This week, the PGA tour is in Texas for the 2016 Shell Houston Open. It is the last tournament before the year’s first Major Championship at Augusta and many top players are in the field to get their games ready. It was a packed leaderboard in the final round, with many recognizable names near the top but in the end, it was 38 year old journeyman Jim Herman who prevailed.
Entering this week, Jim Herman had 105 starts on the PGA Tour with only five top-10 finishes. Going into the final round, Jim was tied for the lead but would have to hold off the likes of Henrik Stenson, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler to earn his first career victory.

Despite the stars’ strongest effort, Jim shot a final round 4-under 68 to win the tournament by one shot. The round was highlighted by Jim’s incredible chip-in birdie on the par-3 16th that gave him the lead for good. With this victory, Jim Herman has earned an invite to next week’s Masters. He will also play the PGA Championship in July and has earned his card for the 2017-18 season.
