For the second week in a row, Adam Scott is in the winner’s circle as he fought back hard to win the 2016 WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral. With his victory at the Honda Classic last week, Adam becomes the first player since Billy Horschel in 2014 to win two weeks straight. This victory also elevated Adam to 7th all-time in PGA Tour earnings with $42.8 million.
The day began with world number two Rory McIlroy with a three-shot lead. With high winds throughout the final round and the challenge of the Blue Monster, many players struggled including Rory, who shot a final round 74. Adam Scott was no exception as he made two double bogeys in a three-hole stretch and with 13 holes remaining in the tournament, Adam faced a six-shot deficit.
That was quickly erased though when Adam got on a hot streak and made six birdies in nine holes. Despite the hot streak, Adam had some nervy-looking shots down the stretch but was solid enough in his recoveries to hold off Bubba Watson. 45-year-old Phil Mickelson played very well to finish in the Top 5 while Dustin Johnson plummeted from contention after shooting 42 in the back nine.
With the year’s first Major Championship just four weeks away at Augusta, there are certainly quite a few former champions playing well at the moment. Although caddie David Clark was on the bag the past two weeks that netted his player $2.7 million, Adam Scott appears to stick to his plan to have Steve Williams by his side at the Masters. Steve Williams brings a certain level of experience at Augusta and with Adam playing so well, would you consider him to be the favourite for the 2016 Masters?
