On this Valentine’s Day, there was a bit of a Cinderella Story at Pebble Beach. Vaughn Taylor entered the week as an alternate for the event and for the first time since 2005, he won a PGA Tour tournament as he shot a final round of 7-under 65 to win the 2016 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am by one shot.
Phil Mickelson started the day with a two shot lead but ended up shooting even par 72 in the final round. Despite having a 5 foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff, Phil did not convert and is winless since the 2013 Open Championship.
Vaughn was ranked 447th in the world coming into the week and was only making limited starts on the PGA Tour. With this victory, Vaughn has earned a two-year exemption on tour and this Augusta, Georgia native has also earned an invitation to the 2016 Masters as well as the 2016 PGA Championship.
