Extreme winds and rain pushed the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open to a Monday finish at Torrey Pines, however, it proved only to be a formality. Brandt Snedeker scored a 69 in the worse conditions for the week on Sunday to get to 6-under for the tournament and just one behind Jimmy Walker to start play Monday. It was one of the best rounds ever given the conditions – the round of 3-under 69 was on a day where the scoring average of the 23 players who finished was 78.12 before play was called and fans ordered to evacuate.
To finish the tournament, Walker would post a 5-over round (4-over on Monday) while other challengers including KJ Choi and Freddie Jacobson also struggled when winds picked up again. Snedeker’s round of 69 was good enough to give him his eighth win on the PGA Tour career and his second at Torrey Pines. This is Snedeker’s third tournament dating back to 2011 in which he trailed by six or more shots going into the final round and won – no other player on TOUR has more than one such victory.
