The Bushnell NEO Ghost is one of the products we featured in our 2015 Holiday Gift Guide for golfers – it is lightweight, wearable, pocket sized, easy-to-use Golf GPS, preloaded with information on over 33,000 golf courses. The device gives easy-to-read front/center/back distances and up to four hazard distances per hole with no downloads and no membership fees ever.
The first thing you will notice with the Bushnell NEO Ghost is how light it is (only 42 grams) and how large the screen is relative to the overall size of the device. The dimensions of the display area on the NEO Ghost is 35mm x 35mm while the overall dimensions are 57mm x 57mm x 16mm. Over 33,000 golf courses are pre-loaded via iGolf database, so more than likely, the courses you’re playing will be available on the device – best to make sure before you purchase it though. Overall, the battery life lasts roughly 14 hours or three rounds with four hours of recharging time. One important feature that we love is the fact that the NEO Ghost is waterproof – given the amount of rain we can get in Vancouver, this gives us a piece of mind about not damaging the NEO Ghost in poor weather.
Once you step onto the golf course, you turn on the NEO Ghost and go through the very intuitive, easy-to-use interface to start your round. It takes about 30-seconds to 1-minute for the NEO Ghost to auto recognize the golf course you’re on. The NEO Ghost will also automatically advance to the next hole, but you can also do this manually if the device gets lost on the course or anything like that.
In addition to providing the front/center/back distances for each hole, the NEO Ghost can also provide up to four hazard distances as well. During our use of the NEO Ghost, we double checked the numbers with our Bushnell Tour Z6 rangefinder and found that the distances were very accurate (some discrepencies of +/- 1 yard). There is also a shot measurement option to see how far you really hit that driver off the tee or how long/short your iron shots went! The Neo Ghost also comes with a plastic clip that lets golfers attach it to their belts or golf bags.
For just CAD $149.99, you’re getting quite the bang for your buck with the Bushnell NEO Ghost – it’s a great entry-level GPS unit for golfers who don’t want to buy a top-of-the-line laser rangefinder. This definitely does the job and allows you to figure out how far you need to hit your golf ball to give you a chance and scoring your best.
