After exploring where golf is heading in 2016 and if the Rio Olympic Games will add to the sport’s popularity, CNN Living Golf continue their series in Asia at the HSBC Golf Business Forum in Shanghai. In addition to talking about why Asia is crucial to the future growth of golf, these industry leaders also talk about why they love the game.
Golf has grown tremendously over the past decade and Asia, in particular China, has been at the forefront of the sport’s globalization. This is mainly due to the growth of China’s economy and with a rising population in the middle and upper middle class, the billions of new consumers in China and the rest of Asia will make up a considerable part of golf’s target audience.
There are many ways to reach this target audience and among them is to create a professional game with Asian athletes coming through, translating itself into inspiring the next generation. This would help to build a foundation in which a whole industry can be sustained and as leaders of the industry, many feel that it is their obligation to unlock this potential and see sustainable growth in golf in the next 20-30 years.
