Rickie Fowler is making a strong case of the modern era “Big Four,” joining Major Champions Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day at the top of the sport. It seems like Fowler plays his best golf when the pressure is the highest, like his win at THE PLAYERS Championship and AAM Scottish Open last year. This past weekend, he beat one of the strongest fields of the year to capture the 2016 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship – that’s four worldwide titles in the past nine months!
Fowler’s game has really flourished under the guidance of Butch Harmon. Not only did he finish in the Top-5 in all four Major Championships in 2014, but he had his first multi-victory year in 2015. The ultimate goal for 2016 is to win his first Major Championship. A win here in Abu Dhabi is a great start towards that goal. Fowler would finish the tournament at 16-under par with rounds of 70-68-65-69, hitting some clutch shots near the end of the final round, besting Thomas Pieters by one stroke. Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson would finish T3 at 14-under par while Jordan Spieth finished T5 at 11-under par.
This was a big one. Last year having a multiple-win season, to come back and work on getting back in the winner’s circle after a successful season and keep moving forward. This is a great start. -Rickie Fowler
