Jason Dufner just captured his fourth career PGA TOUR victory this past weekend and his first since the 2013 PGA Championship. It’s been a rough couple of years for Dufner, but on Sunday, he won the CareerBuilder Challenge with a par on the second hole of a playoff by taking advantage of David Lingmerth’s shot that bounced off the jagged rocks and into the water.
But the shot everybody has been talking about is his second shot on the par-3 17th at PGA West’s TPC Stadium Course. The hole, nicknamed Alcatraz, played as a 165-yard par-3 – Dufner’s tee shot on the island green went long and landed in some rocks in a hazard just off the grass. With his ball laying between two rocks on a gravel lie, Dufner struck the ball and got it rolling toward the hole, where it hit the flagstick to set up a tap-in par.
