For the first time in over 100 years, golf will return to the Olympic Games in 2016, held in Rio, Brazil. Continuing from the first part of the series, CNN Living Golf continues the conversation with golf’s most influential voices at the HSBC Golf Business Forum in Shanghai.
In this segment, we hear the differing opinions on the effect that golf in the Olympics will have on the sport. Most thinks that the Olympics will add to golf’s popularity. The views of golf in established markets most likely won’t change but this will be quite different in emerging markets.
With more exposure of golf from the Olympics Games, this could result in higher interest among countries that are less developed in the sport. In addition, the Olympic Games offer another platform for golf’s best players to showcase their skills, especially for Women’s Golf. However, there are opposing views that sees the Olympic Games as a complication in an already busy golf season schedule.
