Professional golfers are making more money in more tournaments than ever before in 2016, largely in part of the effect that Tiger Woods have had on the game. Although golf continues to spread globally, there is a general consensus that the interest in golf is on the decline, especially among the younger generation. In part one of this CNN Living Golf feature, we take a look at the health of the game with host Shane O’Donoghue.
In the past decade, China has led the globalization of golf. It is in China where the HSBC Golf Business Forum, the world’s largest annual meeting of golf industry executives, was held. At this event, CNN Living Golf had the opportunity to hear from some of today’s golf’s strongest voices. These include the top executives from professional tours around the world as well as top business leaders and accredited media members.
Overall, time constraint seems to be the reoccurring theme among these interviews. Despite appealing to the avid golfer, the traditional way of playing golf may be in decline however, the participation of golf is increasing dramatically through other avenues. Driving range, pitch and putt, adventure golf and computer games are just some examples of how this is taking place. The health of golf is not as dire as some people say but for certain, the game is slowly evolving from its roots.
