Nike Golf is off to a busy start in the year 2016. Shortly after announcing its new line of golf clubs for the new year in the Nike Golf Vapor Fly, it also announced the expansion of its roster in Team Nike. Highlighting the additions and joining the face of Nike Golf in Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods are Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau. Last week, Nike’s strive for technology and innovation continues as it announces the new RZN Tour Golf Ball. With a softer RZN formulation and the Flight Suit cover to promote the “ultimate combination of feel and distance”, the new RZN Tour Golf Ball features substantial improvement over the original RZN golf ball back in 2014.
The new RZN Tour Golf Ball features a four-piece urethane cover design. It utilizes four key components for added yardage and a softer feel in comparison to the previous RZN Black and RZN Platinum golf balls. These components are RZN 4.0, Speedlock X Core, Speedlock Mantle and the Flight Suit Cover. RZN 4.0 is the newest iteration of RZN material. Not only is its blue centre core softer but it is also 10 percent bigger than the previous generation. With a “bigger engine,” this allows the golf ball to attain faster ball speeds.
Speedlock X technology is found on the core of the RZN Tour Golf Ball. With deeper grooves and a X-shaped surface pattern, 26-percent more surface area is created than the former generation, which allows for better energy transfer through the ball. This results in more distance and faster ball speeds. But it’s not all about distance as surrounding the core is the Speedlock Mantle and its Speedlock grooves. These two features promotes greater spin on shorter shots with high-lofted clubs as they help engage the cover of the golf ball.
Last but not least, the RZN Tour Golf Ball’s Flight Suit cover features visible technology. To achieve longer ball flight, engineers designed the new golf balls with 344 dimples and 13,558 micro dimples. These micro dimples are strategically spread across the cover of the ball, utilizing advanced aerodynamics to “help facilitate improved lift and drag properties, especially at the end of the ball flight.”
There will be two versions of the RZN Tour ball, with Black for lower-spin distance and Platinum for mid-spin control. There will also be a line of RZN Speed golf balls, offering three-piece constructed golf balls designed for ultimate forgiveness and softer feel. It will utilize the same Speedlock X Core technology and features two versions, with the Red for longer carry and White for softer feel. These new RZN golf balls will be available on January 22 at nike.com and January 29 at select retailers.
