Callaway Golf: XR 16

The beginning of a new year typically starts with new player signings and new products from golf companies. For 2016, Callaway Golf introduces their new line of XR 16 woods, available at retail beginning January 29, 2016. The new line includes the XR 16 driver, pro driver, fairway wood and pro fairway wood.

For the XR 16 Driver, Callaway worked with the experts at Boeing to redefine what’s possible with club speed and aerodynamics. They created their most forgiving head shape ever and Boeing made it fast with a re-engineered Speed Step. This collaboration resulted in a design that’s bigger, hotter, and more forgiving with Callaway’s lightest crown for even more ball speed and distance.

In particular with this collaboration, Callaway leaned on Boeing’s expertise in laminar flow control. They were able to strategically place what Boeing calls local air flow modifiers — or trip steps — on the club head to help reduce drag from the top of the swing through impact with the golf ball (Turbulators, anyone?). A next generation R MOTO face that’s lighter and up to 19 percent thinner helps golfers create more cluhead speed, ball speed and forgiveness.

The XR 16 Fairway Wood builds on the company’s face cup technology that has helped Callaway achieve the #1 fairway wood position in golf. The XR 16 Fairway Woods feature a head shape design that is bigger, hotter, and more forgiving with our lightest crown for even more ball speed and distance, similar to the XR 16 driver.

Both the Callaway XR 16 Driver and the XR 16 Fairway Wood are available in Pro versions that are developed with the better player in mind. The price for the XR 16 Driver is $349.99 and it’s available in 9-, 10.5-degree and 13.5° HT lofts. The XR 16 Pro Driver will be $399.99, and will be available in 9- and 10.5 degree lofts.

The XR 16 Fairway Wood is $229.99; the line of metalwoods will be available in a 3+, 3-, 4-, 5-, 7-, 9- and 11-Wood. The XR 16 Pro Fairway Wood will cost $249.99 and will be available in 14-, 16- and 18-degree lofts.
