Sergio Garcia is back in the winner’s circle after winning the inaugural Ho Tram Open in a four-way playoff on Sunday in Vietnam. Garcia, ranked 12th in the world coming into this week, held off India’s Himmat Rai on the second playoff hole in the Asian Tour event. Chinese Taipei’s Lin Wen-tang and Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant didn’t make it past the first playoff hole. He nearly gave the tournament away though after making a double-bogey on the 71st hole to fall into the playoff – Garcia’s most recent European Tour victory came at the 2014 Qatar Masters, but hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since the 2012 Wyndham Championship. This was his fifth Asian Tour title.
“Winning is never easy. I was fortunate and you have to be lucky to win. I was fortunate to get a second chance after I pretty much gave it away. I’m very happy as I haven’t won in a while. After you’ve been up there and you don’t win, a lot of things go through your mind and this win will help give me a little bit more confidence,” said Garcia, who signed off with a three-under-par 68 for a 14-under-par 270 aggregate.
