Rory McIlroy had an excellent season of golf in 2015, even though he missed three months from an ankle injury. He came into 2014-2015 season as the hottest golfer on the planet, winning seven times in just 23 starts last year, including two Major Championships the previous year. He would start the 2015 year with a win at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and followed that with wins at the WGC-Cadillac Matchplay Championship and Wells Fargo Championship. Even with three months away from the sport, McIlroy had enough victories and top finishes to lead the Race To Dubai heading into the final event at the DP World Tour Championship.
He would drive the ball wonderfully with his new Nike Golf Vapor Fly driver while wearing his Nike Golf Lunar Control 4 golf shoes and played beautifully throughout the week. A week with rounds of 68-68-65-66 for a total of 21-under-par gave Rory the winning score, going toe-to-toe and beating Englishman Andy Sullivan by one stroke. This is the second time Rory has won the DP World Tour Championship (2012) and third time he has won the overall Race To Dubai. Apart from his two wins at the DP World Tour Championship though, Rory tied second in 2014, third in 2009, fifth in 2010, tied fifth in 2013 and tied 11th in 2011 – he obviously plays well in this event and in Dubai!
“It means an awful lot, I had to play so well over the weekend. Dubai has been a pretty sweet place for me” – Rory McIlroy
