It’s been a rough year for the 2010 US Open Champion, Graeme McDowell. But this week, he ended one of his worst years with one of his best shots. McDowell won the 2015 OHL Classic at Mayakoba on Monday after a wet and windy week on the course. He would compete against Jason Bohn and Russell Knox, who won last week, in a sudden death playoff. McDowell would end it quickly with a 5-iron that settled 3-feet away for a birdie! He closed the tournament out with a 5-under 66 to finish at 18-under par!
“You go through a year like this, you think, ‘Am I finished? Am I not good enough?’ You ask yourself all the questions,” McDowell said. “It’s the game of golf, and it’s very difficult. I’ve been dreaming of this day and I said that I was going to appreciate it when it came. So I’m going to appreciate this one, because this year has been a grind.”
This was McDowell’s first victory since he won the French Open in July of 2014 and his first PGA Tour victory since the RBC Heritage in 2013. He has not finished in the top-10 in nine months dating back to the 2015 Dubai Desert Clasic, mainly due to adjusting to a new life at home with his daughter, Vale, who was born in September 2014. Golf just wasn’t a priority anymore but he’s really worked hard to get back to where he wants to be. Watch highlights of the 2015 OHL Classic above!
