The TaylorMade M1 driver debuted to the public in early September alongside the PSi irons, but was put in the bag by many of the professionals, including Jason Day, when it was first announced. The M1 is an “unmetalwood,” features multi-material construction with an ultra-thin, ultra-light and high-strength carbon composite crown.
The M1 has a mixed white and black crown – a white stripe close to the face is designed to help you return the club to square while the darker carbon fiber saves weight and gives the illusion of a smaller head in the address position. Drivers with carbon fiber crowns never had the best sound and feel, but the M1 delivers a crisp sound and solid feel that one expects for a TaylorMade driver.
The M1 also utilizes a T-Track system of sliding weights used to tweak ball flight. A 15-gram weight runs from heel to toe, which effects shot shape (draw or fade bias). A second 10-gram weight runs from front to back which helps effects ball flight (higher or lower). We had the opportunity to test the 2016 product from TaylorMade at our TaylorMade Performance Centre at University Golf Club and came away extremely impressed with the performance of the M1 woods and PSi irons. In the video above, take a comprehensive look behind the scenes of the research and development behind the M1 driver.
Make sure to check out what the pros have to say about the M1 driver too. Watch the videos below of Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Steven Bowditch, Ryan Palmer and Stephen Gallacher going through some initial testing with the M1.
