The WGC-HSBC Champions was held this past week at Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai, where defending champion Bubba Watson hoped to Own The Moment once more and successfully defend his title. As with most WGC events, this was one of the strongest fields in golf with names such as Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson and more teeing it up.
Although there were so many big names in the field (and most of them near the top of the leaderboard), it would be 30-year-old world number 85, Russell Knox of Scotland, that would take the crown. He is the first Scot to win a WGC event and shot a final round four-under 68 to finish the tournament at 20-under-par, good for a two-stroke victory. This was Knox’s first victory on the European and PGA TOUR as well as his first WGC victory (it was also his first start in a WGC event!) – the success will send Knox to The Masters in April along with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
