Last year, it was announced that the Open Championship will return to Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland in 2019. The Open was last played at Royal Portrush in 1951, marking the only time the Open Championship was held outside of Scotland or England since its inception.
Since 1951, The Open has grown tremendously in stature and scale. Naturally, in order to modernize Royal Portrush for a Major, there will be changes to the course as well as infrastructure installations.
In the video above, we get a look at the proposed changes, some of which are quite significant as Royal Portrush evolves with modification to old holes and new holes are to be sculpted through the dunes. We also hear from Ireland’s top professional golfers, including Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington, who shares their excitement and anticipation with us in looking forward to the Open returning to their home country.
