For the second week in a row, there is a first-time winner on the PGA Tour as Smylie Kaufman was victorious at the 2015 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. In the final round, Smylie was 9 under par in his final 11 holes and ended up shooting a bogey-free 10-under 61 for the clubhouse lead. Smylie sat and waited nervously for two hours but none of the challengers were able to match his score.
Among the challengers was Kevin Na, who forced a playoff last week at the Frys.com Open but fell to eventual winner Emiliano Grillo. Na, along with Brett Stegmaier, Patton Kizzire, Cameron Tringale, Jason Bohn and Alex Cejka, all finished a stroke back and in a tie for second place. With a victory in just his fifth PGA Tour start, Smylie Kaufman has earned a spot in the 2016 Masters along with his $1,152,000 pay cheque.
