Jordan Spieth: FedEx Cup Champion

Jordan Spieth has had an unbelievable 2014-15 PGA TOUR season. After winning in Australia for the 2014 Emirates Australian Open and at Tiger’s Hero World Challenge to end 2014, he went into the new year with a lot of momentum.

He won at many events throughout the year including the Valspar Championship and the John Deere Classic, where was defending champion. Perhaps the most impressive was his play during the year’s Major Championships though. Jordan captured the his first Green Jacket at The Masters, then followed that with a victory at the US Open at Chambers Bay. He played extremely well at both The Open Championship and the PGA Championship as well, but would finish T4 and solo 2nd respectively. In 25 starts, 20% were wins and 60% were top-10’s.

During that run of tournaments and consistent play, Jordan even rose to World Number 1 in the official golf world rankings, but would eventually lose it back to Rory McIlroy and then Jason Day, who was on fire since the RBC Canadian Open. Spieth would struggle a bit at the beginning of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, missing the cut at both The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship, but would return to form at the BMW Championship. With such a remarkable season, it was only fitting that he would also capture the season ending TOUR Championship presented by Coca Cola and the overall FedEx Cup! With the win at the TOUR Championship, Spieth becomes the youngest player since Horton Smith (21) in 1929 to win five times in a season. He also returns to Number 1 in the official world golf rankings, retaking the position from Jason Day, and is the youngest winner of the TOUR Championship and the FedEx Cup at 22 years, 2 months old. He also sets a total season money record of $12,030,465, plus a $10 million FedExCup bonus for a total of $22 million… all at the age of 22-years-old!
