Lydia Ko has been making history since winning her first event on the LPGA TOUR as a 15-year-old amateur in our hometown of Vancouver at the CN Canadian Women’s Open – an event she’s won three times over the past four years.
Since that first victory in Vancouver, Ko has gone on to win 12 more times for a total of 13 professional wins and even reached the World Number 1 ranking earlier in 2015 – she’s currently ranked number 2, behind Inbee Park who won two Majors this year. Just this past weekend though, she made history again by becoming the youngest winner of a women’s Major Championship after an incredible final round of 63 to claim the Evian Championship in France. Ko finished at 16-under-par, six shots better than Lexi Thompson, for her fourth win of the year.
It was a dominant display of golf by Ko on Sunday. Though she has her sights set on reclaiming the World Number 1 ranking, her main goal that she revealed was to tee it up in 2016 when golf is included in the Rio Olympics – she’ll definitely be a favourite! In the video above, hear from Ko as she talks about her first Major Championship victory.
