Rory McIlroy stepped onto the first tee for his final round at the Deutsche Bank Championship today sporting a new pair of Limited Edition Lunar Control 3 golf shoes. We’ve seen many custom pairs of Lunar Control 3’s throughout the year with the Limited Masters Edition as well as pairs designed for the Irish Open. With this latest release, Nike Golf incorporates a bold Swoosh and bright colour highlights that aim to disrupt the status quo in golf.
“We set out to be disruptive with this shoe,” explains James Arizumi, Nike Golf’s Design Director of footwear. “We challenge the status quo by placing the Swoosh on top of the shoe in the toe area, instead of on the side.”
The Swoosh appears in metallic silver, set against a bright orange and white upper. Like the other Lunar Control 3 golf shoes, Flywire technology is used for adaptive lateral support. A wider base helps with stability and allows the golf athlete to maintain contact with the ground for as long as possible through ball impact. The shoe’s carbon fiber midfoot shank offers lightweight stability while its midsole features full-length Lunarlon foam that delivers lightweight, responsive cushioning.
McIlroy and a variety of Nike Golf athletes will wear the limited edition Lunar Control 3 in the final round of upcoming competitive events. This pair of Limited Edition Lunar Control 3’s are now available on Nike.com for USD $170.
