Galvin Green is a global leader in high-performance golf clothing – they are the world’s leading maker of “functional golf clothing for serious golfers” and the number 1 global golf partner of GORE-TEX. Most recently, they have been selected as the Official Team Supplier of Outerwear to the 2016 and 2018 European Ryder Cup Teams.
Through this partnership, Galvin Green will first provide its premium waterproof garments to Captain Darren Clarke, his vice captains, team members and their caddies during next year’s matches at Hazeltine National Golf Club (27 Sept- 2 Oct). The ultra-lightweight, breathable rain suits will also be offered for purchase by the wider golfing population after the competition concludes.
“Galvin Green’s garments proved to be very popular when part of the official Ryder Cup range at Gleneagles,” said Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup Director. “We are particularly pleased to have one of the most sought-after outerwear brands in golf supporting Europe when they defend the trophy next year.”
We’ve seen a number of great products from Galvin Green this year already including the GORE-TEX Paclite, Insula Technology, Ventil8 Technology and the Windstopper Jacket. A final decision has yet to be made by Clarke on the specific garments though – whatever is chosen will be subjected to a period of at least 50-hours of exhaustive testing in different playing conditions, including simulated heavy downpours in a rain chamber. The results will be scrutinized to determine the best option for producing up to six prototypes that are expected to be ready for play-testing one year out from the event itself.
“Our ambition is to create a thoroughly modern, standout rain suit in stretch fabric that offers superb playability in a wide range of conditions,” said Mats Lundqvist, Lead Designer, Galvin Green. “It will be a little bit different in appearance to anything seen before at The Ryder Cup, but we know the captains, players and caddies will be thrilled with the playing experience it offers.”
In conjunction with outfitting the European Team, Galvin Green will also launch a dedicated Ryder Cup collection before the 2018 event at Le Golf National near Paris, when The Ryder Cup returns to Continental Europe for the first time in 21 years.
