Last week, we got to witness a very exciting tournament at The Open Championship. Entering the final round, there were 14 players within three shots of the lead, with some star names at the top including Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Day. The eventual winner was Zach Johnson, who won in a three-way, four hole aggregate playoff between himself, Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen. It’s definitely a special feeling to be named the Champion Golfer of the Year – this is Johnson’s second Major Championship among his 12 PGA TOUR victories.
Perhaps it was a different Johnson that most expected to be lifting the Claret Jug though. After 36 holes, it was TaylorMade’s Dustin Johnson who was atop the leaderboard, but after rounds of 75-75 over the weekend, he would finish T49 at 4-under par. Another TaylorMade staffer, Jason Day, was tied for the lead heading into the final round and needed a birdie on the 72nd hole to join the playoff. His putt would come short, but you can just feel that his time is coming soon. Day now has finished inside the Top-10 in 9 of 20 major appearances.
In the video above, hear from previous winners of The Open Championship from TaylorMade’s team of touring staffa s they talk about how it feels to have won one of the most prestigious tournaments in the sport of golf. Join Darren Clarke Tom Lehman and Justin Leonard above – take a look!
