The 144th Open Championship at St Andrews concluded in dramatic fashion today. Zach Johnson earned his second Major Championship as he beat Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman in a four-hole aggregate playoff. The 17th hole at the Old Course, also known as the Road Hole, showed its teeth today as it impacted the outcome of the tournament in a significant way.
Throughout the Open Championship, there were only nine birdies surrendered on the Road Hole. Its average score was 0.655 strokes over par, nearly half a stroke tougher than the next toughest hole. In the final round, the Road Hole prevented Zach Johnson from winning the tournament in regulation while Jordan Spieth bogeyed to just miss the playoffs and end his hope of winning the Grand Slam in the same calendar year. Watch the video above as we take a look at the profile of the most iconic hole on the Old Course in St Andrews.
