To say goodbye to the Open Championship, many great players have chosen the Home of Golf in St. Andrews to bid their final farewell. Among them was Jack Nicklaus, who made the walk across the Swilcan Bridge back in 2005. This year, we will see 5-time Open Champion Tom Watson, who was one of the greatest links players of his time, play in his 40th Open Championship and say his final goodbye to the tournament.
Despite winning the Open five times, Tom Watson has never won at St. Andrews. Perhaps, this could change this year but with winning the Open five times, Tom’s affinity for links golf has never been questioned. This love for the Scottish links has also transpired to his course design work, starting with Beaverbrook in Surrey, England.
In the final part of this CNN Living Golf series, we hear from Tom Watson as he prepares to say his final farewell to the Open at St. Andrews. We also hear from David McLay Kidd of DMK Golf Design, who was responsible for the famous Bandon Dunes in Oregon, and has teamed up with Tom on their design at Beaverbrook.
