In a recent survey conducted by Sports Illustrated, Rickie Fowler was voted as one of the most overrated players on the PGA Tour by his peers. This was despite Rickie finishing in the top 5 in all four Major Championships in 2014. Well, in case his peers had forgotten, Rickie went on a tear at the recent PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass and sent a strong message. After going 6-under in the final 6 holes, Rickie forced a 3-hole aggregate playoff with Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner, in which he played lights out to capture his first Players Championship and second PGA TOUR victory.
Rickie’s first PGA TOUR victory came back in 2012 at the Wells Fargo Championship where he outdueled Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points, also in a playoff. Certainly, expectations for Rickie were a lot higher than what he has achieved but we are definitely seeing signs of a breakthrough. Aside from his talent, Rickie also works hard at his game, having made major swing changes with famed swing coach Butch Harmon and setting high goals for 2015.
We also cannot underestimate the impact Rickie has on the sport of golf, with his colourful and brash style that he’s brought to the golf course. In the feature video above, we take a look back at Rickie’s young career since he’s been on Tour and what we can look forward to in the coming years.
