On a weekend where the main focus was on the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in Las Vegas, the golf world had its own “mano e mano” event as the WGC-Cadillac Matchplay took place at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. Rory McIlroy certainly flexed his muscles as he won all of his matches on his way to his second WGC title, having won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last year.
In 3 of his 4 matches leading up to the final, Rory McIlroy trailed going to the 16th tee. However, by going a combined 9 under par on those closing holes, Rory was able to win his matches and go head to head with Gary Woodland in the final. Rory ended up winning his match 4 and 2 as he earned an early birthday present, winning his tenth PGA Tour victory. The PGA Tour will now head back to Florida for The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
