The world of golf has begun to set their eyes on Chambers Bay, host of the 2015 US Open Championship. It will be the first time the US Open will be held in the Pacific Northwest (as well as the first time for Chambers Bay) and will be heralded as one of the most versatile and unique US Open Championships in history.
The course is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. design and will remind players and viewers more of an Open Championship than a US Open Championship. The interest in the course grows by the day because there are so many unknowns about this facility – players won’t know what to expect.
“The idea of coming in and playing two practice rounds and just walking it and using your yardage book, that person is done. Will not win the U.S. Open.” – Mike Davis, USGA Executive Director
We’ve played Chambers Bay ourselves a couple of times and love the golf course. The golf itself will be a challenge, but walking the golf course for four straight days may prove to be the most difficult aspect of the 2015 US Open. There are severe elevation changes on this golf course, where most of the front-9 is a steady climb up-hill. It’s not until the 9th hole (a par-3) that you play a shot with nearly 100-feet of drop. Though players will be faced with some surprises with this hole! In the video above, hear from Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose and more to find out how much they really know about Chambers Bay.
