2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play Preview

This week, the newly sponsored WGC-Cadillac Match Play will take place in San Francisco, California. With a new city comes a new venue as the tournament will now host 64 of the world’s top golfers at TPC Harding Park. Last year, Jason Day won the tournament in dramatic fashion in a playoff over Victor Dubuisson but to defend the title this year, Jason will have to fend off challengers in a unique new format as well.

In years past, the WGC Match Play was a single elimination tournament where players may only play one match before packing their bags to go home. The new format consists of Round Robin play on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday where there will be sixteen group of foursomes in total. The world’s top 16 ranked players in the world will headline each of these groups.

At the end of the first three days, the player with the best record in each group will then advance to a single elimination format on the weekend. The new format certainly give players more opportunities to advance but it also give fans a chance to see more of their favourite players. It sounds like a win-win situation for all parties involved ad we look forward to see who will come out on top in the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play!
