Justin Rose has been playing some fine golf of late. A few weeks ago, he finished T2 at the 2015 Masters after being in the final pairing with Jordan Spieth. And today, just a few weeks later, Rose would shoot a final round 6-under 66 with two birdies in his final two holes to win by one-shot over Cameron Tringale.
Sometimes, par can be a frustrating score for a professional, particularly for Rose today when TPC Louisiana was soft and vulnerable after heavy rain. The weather delay forced players to finish their third round and also play their fourth round on Sunday. Rose made six straight pars during his third round and with this frustration, he turned to his caddie for advice – and his advice was to remember Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors during game 3 of the 2015 NBA Playoffs.
“I started off hot, had gone cold and [Fulcher] said, ‘Come on, just remember Steph Curry. He went cold but he kept wanting the ball. He kept shooting threes. He kept believing in himself’,'” Rose said.
After going cold for a stretch during the game, Curry would score an incredible three-pointer to send the game to overtime, eventually leading the Warriors to a 123-119 win. This inspiration worked for Rose as he would post a score of 7-under 65 for the third round. The strong play continued into the final round which began almost immediately after his third round wrapped up, where Rose would stay aggressive and post another score.
