The sport of golf has changed and evolved dramatically over the past couple of decades. Golfers are becoming more athletic than ever and spending as much time in the gym as they are on the driving range. Fitness in golf was really pioneered by The Black Knight, Gary Player – he’s even been featured on ESPN Magazine’s Body Issue!
Tiger Woods then brought fitness in golf to the masses and inspired a whole new generation of golfers. Rory McIlroy, current world number 1, is one of those golfers inspired by Woods. Like Woods, Rory has spent a tremendous amount of time in the gym and has become one of the fittest players on the PGA TOUR, even making an appearance in Men’s Health Magazine and recently being on the cover of it as well!
Another golfer that has been involved with Men’s Health Magazine is Brooks Koepka, winner of the 2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open, his first PGA TOUR victory. Like Rory, Brooks spends a lot of time in the gym preparing his body for tournament golf – his size (6’0″, 186 pounds) and strength allows him to combine a great short game with power (6th in driving distance at 307.5 yards). In the video above, join Koepka and Dr. Greg Rose, Founder CEO of the Titleist Performance Institute, to see what exercises the pros do to train for tournament golf.
