With Masters week well underway, there are two story lines that are the main focus of golf fans everywhere. Having won the last two Major Championships, Rory McIlroy will aim to complete his career Grand Slam this week at Augusta. The other story is the return of Tiger Woods, who took a short break away to work on his game, and is now ready for competition and resume his quest to break Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 Majors.
Just like Tiger idolized Jack Nicklaus, Rory McIlroy and his generation of golfers have looked up to Tiger Woods. Extraordinary athletes often inspire the next generation and in turn, their greatness has a “ripple” effect that filters down to the generation after them. To capture this journey of inspiration, Nike Golf has created a short film, appropriately named “Ripple.”
The story begins with a young Rory working relentlessly on his game as he watches Tiger ascend in the world of golf. As the film progress, Rory accomplishments in golf grows until he has turned professional and is playing side by side with his idol, Tiger Woods.
Today, Tiger and Rory are friends off the course and have competed against each other in events such as The Match at Mission Hills Haikou. As Nike Golf states, “Every athlete grows up dreaming of emulating their heroes. Not many actually get to do it.” This short film captures that dream perfectly and delivers a powerful impact to its audience.
