Tiger Woods has been the face of the sport of golf for more than a decade. Throughout his career, he has brought golf into the spotlight and grew the sport for a whole new generation of golfers. Not only was his presence felt on the golf course, but also off the golf course as well, being the cover athlete and face the EA SPORTS PGA TOUR game for 15 years. The last game they made together (Tiger Woods PGA TOUR ’14) featured a “Legends Mode” where you could compete against the legends of the game as well as an LPGA TOUR mode.
EA SPORTS ended the 15-year relationship with Tiger Woods about two years ago, but today, they announced a new era for their PGA TOUR franchise. The new name and face of its next series of golf games feature current World Number 1, Rory McIlroy. The golf game, EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR, will be EA SPORTS’ first since 2013 and is expected to release in early June. It is also the first Tiger-less game for the first time since 1998.
