Back in mid-November 2014, TaylorMade Golf launched their Made of Greatness and Made of Speed campaigns representing their R15 and AeroBurner line of woods for the 2015 season. We had a chance to hit both the R15 series and AeroBurner line of woods at the TaylorMade Performance Centre at University Golf Club and came away extremely impressed.
Today, TaylorMade announces the rest of the AeroBurner family. Joining the line of drivers and fairway woods are a set of irons, a mini driver and two lines of golf balls. We first saw TaylorMade Golf release a mini driver last year at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, the SLDR Mini Driver, before it made its official debut ahead of The Masters.
The AeroBurner version of the mini driver features lots of speed and improved playability. It is meant to either be a driver alternative (for whose who prefer smaller clubheads) or a 3-wood replacement. You could technically call it a 3-wood that was designed specifically for the tee. It is 253CC and designed with a longer hosel, flatter lie, and more open face angle. Like the rest of the AeroBurner metal woods, the mini driver features an aerodynamic headshape with a raised centre crown and hosel fin and the larger speed pocket all meant to promote speed and forgiveness. Hear more about it from Hank Haney in the video above. Available March 27.
The AeroBurner irons, on first impression, can be categorized as a “super game improvement” iron, most likely targeted to compete against the likes of Callaway’s Big Bertha irons or the Ping G30 irons. You’ll notice that the AeroBurner irons do not have any face slots though, a new technology TaylorMade has been pushing through their RSi series of irons.
The lack of face slots is because the club head of the AeroBurner irons are already larger with an expanded sweet spot – lots of forgiveness. Face slots in the smaller clubhead RSi irons are designed to help with forgiveness and mishits for those better players. Similar to the RSi series of irons though, the AeroBurner irons also features a speed pocket, but it is configured for a higher launch and more ball speed on low-face mis-hits. The longer blade length, more offset and thicker top line gives players maximum confidence at address. Again, these clubs are made for speed, distance and forgiveness – and you can see by the specs above, they are really designed for distance! Take a look at the Tour Pro reactions above. Available March 27.
Lastly, the AeroBurner Soft and AeroBurner Pro golf balls complete the family. We’ve played with the TaylorMade Tour Preferred X golf balls and Project A golf balls the past couple of months and have had a lot of success with them. The AeroBurner line of golf balls are designed to be “fast distance balls that stop” – long, soft, and offering superior greenside performance. The AeroBurner Soft features 2-piece construction, a REACT core, and a new Iothane cover. The AeroBurner Pro features 3-piece construction, a REACT core, a soft Iothane cover and new SpinMantle layer. Available now.
