Dustin Johnson Wins WGC-Cadillac Championship

The Blue Monster at Trump National Doral is consistently one of the hardest courses during a PGA TOUR season and is usually the hardest non-Major championship golf course. The one who would tame the Blue Monster this year would be Dustin Johnson. After a “leave of absence for personal difficulties,” Johnson has returned and in his first five events, he has three top-5’s, including a playoff loss and today’s win.

It was a battle of the long bombers as 54-hole leader J.B. Holmes, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson battled it out over the final nine holes of the championship. Johnson hit some clutch putts to save par and would win by one stroke. J.B. Holmes, after shooting a 10-under par 62 in round 1, entered Sunday with a five shot lead, but would falter and finish in solo second; Bubba finished in solo third after a charging front-9.

This is Johnson’s 9th career PGA TOUR victory and second World Golf Championship title, but his first victory after the birth of his son, Tatum, with Paulina Gretzky. He has also won at least once in each of his eight seasons, currently the longest streak on the PGA TOUR. The only other players to have accomplished this feat have been Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.

With a renowned focus on his game and being in a better place physically and mentally, you can bet Dustin Johnson will be a force to reckon with in the sport of golf. We can’t wait to watch him take on Chambers Bay for the 2015 US Open – and what a story it would be if he were to win at Whistling Straits for the 2015 PGA Championship, site of his infamous bunker shot.

“I knew I was really good,” Johnson said. “I knew there was something I was missing that could make me great. I was working hard on that, and I think it’s showing right now. … It’s tough. I’m so excited right now, I can’t hardly talk. It feels great. The one definitely, by far, is the best one.”
