Anirban Lahiri Wins Maybank Malaysian Open

While Torrey Pines hosted the PGA Tour’s 2015 Farmers Insurance Open, half way around the world, Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club was hosting the European Tour and the 2015 Maybank Malaysian Open. Defending champion, Lee Westwood, was in the field and was in a spot to contend on the final day, but finished the tournament T5.

Bernd Wiesberger was the clear favourite to win when he started the day with a two shot lead and five shot lead of our eventual winner, Anirban Lahiri. Lahiri shot 62-68 over the weekend and played tremendously. The 27-year old Indian birdied four of his first five holes and finished the tournament at 16-under par for a one shot victory. Wiesberger would finish second after shooting a final round 74.

Anirban Lahiri Maybank Malaysian Open

For Lahiri, this is his first European Tour victory in his 39th event (this is his rookie season though). He becomes the third first-time winner of the 2015 season, joining Andy Sullivan (South African Open) and Gary Stal (Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship). Lahiri has had five titles already on the co-sanctioning Asian Tour though, so he’s no stranger to winning. Take a look at the highlights of the final round above at the beautiful Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
