The biggest news in golf this week was the return of Tiger Woods to competitive golf at his Hero World Challenge. Much of the week was focused on his “new, but old” golf swing and the trouble he had around the greens. Not only did he have to grind through his short game, but he also had to fight out a terrible flu and fever while competing – not the return that everyone envisioned. But it’s awesome to see him competing again and at full health. Although he opened the tournament with a 5-over par 77, he would finish the tournament at even-par and tied for last place.
That story may have overshadowed the amazing play of Jordan Spieth. After winning last week in Australia at the Emirates Australia Open with a final round 63, he continued his hot streak, reaching 20-under par after three rounds and led the field by 7-shots heading into Sunday. His lead would grow to 12-shots throughout the tournament and after shooting a final round 66, he would set a new tournament record at 26-under par and win the tournament by 10-shots.
In his last eight competitive rounds of golf, Spieth is 46-under par. This would be his third professional win at the age of 21 and we can only look forward to what he has in store for 2015! He came so close to winning The Masters this year, finishing T2 to Bubba Watson.
