Bunker Mentality is a golf lifestyle brand with the slogan of “Modern British Golf.” We’ve featured their spring and summer 2014 collection before and today, we’re taking a look at some of their autumn and winter 2014 collection. There’s been a fashion evolution in the sport of golf over the past couple years and Bunker Mentality definitely fits in – the clothing offered has a more tailored fit (“Euro Fit”) and offer bright colours and bold patterns.

Leather Badge Bobble Hat, Bunker Crew Neck Sweatshirt, Vegas Blue Golf Trousers
It’s certainly gotten a lot colder in our hometown of Vancouver the past couple of weeks. Temperatures have hovered around freezing (0-degrees celcius), but that isn’t stopping us from working on our game and testing clubs! We wore Bunker Mentality pieces to our TaylorMade Golf R15 and AeroBurner metalwood testing on a Friday evening when temperatures dropped and were kept extremely warm by the sweaters and knitwear. Several sessions at our driving range with the Bunker sweaters also held up against the colder temperatures brought in by an arctic airflow. Even with the slim, tighter fit that the clothing has, the freedom of movement in our golf swings were not restricted and it performs to keep us warm. These sweaters are quickly becoming some of our favourites on and off the course for this season.
First, we tested the more casual Bunker Crew Neck Sweatshirt, perfect for the range or the 19th hole. It’s made from a mid weight cotton fleece that definitely holds in the warmth. The Bunker logo on the chest is bold and the rib details on the neck and elbow patches are great details to the sweater. Not only did we wear this to our golf course, but we also wore it during our outing to One Under Vancouver recently, an indoor urban golf club.
The Dogtooth Crest V-Neck Sweater is one of the most stylish sweaters we’ve seen. It combines the style of a traditional sweater and modern Bunker style, particularly with the contrasting black and grey marl dogtooth design on the whole of the back (second photo above). The hints of pink ribbing around the V-neck, on the logo and on the back design add a great touch. The traditional Bunker Lions & Union Jack logo looks great on the front and a smaller Bunker logo on the right sleeve is an eye catching detail and design.

The Bunker Shawl Cardigan is a 5 button-up sweater rather than a pull-over sweater. It’s made of 80% lambswool and 20% nylon for extreme warmth. It might’ve been just a personal thing, but the wool did itch a bit against our skin in the beginning – but after several wears, that seemed to go away. The navy definitely stands out and the right sleeve features a knitted 3 stripe insert that contrasts with the predominant colour – a great detail. We love the more traditional logos and this cardigan uses the Bunker Mentality crest on the left chest. It’s a very classical looking garment with modern Bunker style.

In addition to sweaters, you can bet that a good golf jacket will also keep you warm. We’ve featured the Playa Crest Jacket in our previous article, but we had to mention it again. Again, the fit is snug, so you probably won’t want to wear a sweater underneath – a polo would suffice to ensure complete freedom of movement in your swing. The jacket itself is definitely enough to keep you warm. The jacket is not only insulated well, but it is also super-lightweight, made of 85% polyester and 15% cotton. The quilted stitch detail with the classic Bunker Mentality crest gives the jacket a classy look – the British flag detail on the back and branded bunker zip pullers are awesome as well. It’s a jacket we took to the course and even off of it during our visit to the United Kingdom!
Lastly, we paired up these Bunker Mentality sweaters with pairs of Vegas Blue Golf Trousers (which were a bit thin for winter actually) and Sub 65 Golf Trousers (better for cold weather). The Leather Badge Bobble Hat added the final touch to our Bunker Style outfits. It features a simplistic, yet cool “Bunker Mentality, Designed in Britain, Wear it Well” leather badge, sewn into the front of the hat – a great detail!
Overall, Bunker Mentality offers a nice, trim Euro Fit with bright, bold colours and patterns. It may not be for everyone, but for a sport that is growing and trying to reach the masses, the brand will definitely reach out to the younger, modern generation of golfers. The clothing is well made, fashionable and functional – perfect for on and off the golf course. It’s not just golf lifestyle, but also Bunker Style!
