At 92 years young, World Golf Hall of Famer Charlie Sifford is a man of many accomplishments. Among those accomplishments is becoming the first black male to earn his PGA Tour card after the PGA Tour desegregated in 1961. Although Charlie was faced with many challenges, he was able to win twice on the PGA Tour and capture the 1967 Greater Hartford Open and the 1969 Los Angeles Open.
This past Monday, Charlie was recognized for his contributions to the game of golf by the White House and was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barrack Obama! As always, President Obama is a phenomenal public speaker and even pokes fun at his own golf game. This honour is certainly well deserved and even Tiger Woods decided to chime in. Congratulations, Charlie!
History was made last night by my grandpa. Thanks Charlie for inspiring Pop, who then in turn inspired… http://t.co/82i2OnmUea
