Pinehurst No. 2 golf course underwent a major renovation in order to host the 2014 men’s and women’s US Open (Martin Kaymer; Michelle Wie) in back to back weeks. The redesign and restoration aimed to be environmentally-friendly and follows the original 1907 design plan for the course. By using fewer chemicals, less mowing and cutting water usage in half, money was saved and native biological diversity has returned.
With the course filled with native plants, less care is needed and it also matches the Sandhills environment. Watch the video above as we go behind the science that played a major role in the restoration of the historic Pinehurst No. 2 golf course.
