Last week, neither Stacy Lewis nor Inbee Park played in a golf tournament. However, on the Rolex World Rankings, there was an idle swap between the two players – Inbee Park became the number one player in the world. Both players were in action this week though and on the final day of the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship, the two players went head-to-head for the tournament.
Inbee Park shot 64-62-69 at Miramar Golf and Country Club to take a four-stroke lead over Lewis and Shanshan Feng heading into the final round. With a final round 1-under 71 in light rain, she finished the tournament at 22-under par, winning her third tournament of the year and two shots over Stacy Lewis. Lewis shot a Saturday 64 to put herself in a position to win the tournament, but a final round 69 was not enough to catch Park. With Park winning the tournament and Lewis finishing second, wold ranking positions stay the same. It’s been an exciting couple of months for Park as she recently just got married, then becoming world number 1 and topping it off with a victory this week!
In the LPGA’s season-long Race to the CME Globe, however, Lewis remains No. 1, with Park second and Ko third. The winner of the inaugural Race wins $1 million, with the top three able to claim the title with a win in the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in three weeks.
