The sport of golf has really seen a new generation of golfing stars over the past couple of years led by names like Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth. 25 year-old Dane Thorbjørn Olesen is also one of the rising stars in the game. He also signed with Nike Golf in 2013, the same year as Rory McIlroy.
He got his maiden win on the European Tour in 2012 at the Sicilian Open and this past weekend, he won his second tournament at the ISPS HANDA Perth International, held at Lake Karrinyup Golf and Country Club. He is the first European to win this tournament, starting the final round with a three-shot lead, but held off a charging Victor Dubuisson to win the tournament at 17-under par (one shy of Eighteen Under Par!). His next start will be at the BMW Masters in Shanghai, China, starting October 30, 2014.
On a fun note, here’s a little background on his name Thorbjørn. It is the Danish form of the Norse name Þòrbjörn, meaning thunder (from the name Thor) and bear. So with a direct translation, Thorbjørn is the #ThunderBear.
