The summer of 2014 has been the summer of Rory in the world of golf. The World Number 1 and 2014 PGA TOUR Player of the Year won three tournaments in three starts, including two majors, which started at The Open Championship, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship. He also won the European Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship, at Wentworth Golf Club earlier in 2014.
As an European player, The Open is usually the most coveted Major championship in golf. Ahead of the Championship, we perhaps had a bit of foreshadowing to the summer of Rory as he sat down with Shane O’donoghue at Old Head Golf Links to talk about his new found love for the sport and more. Winning The Open Championship was definitely a dream come true for Rory and he even got to step on the pitch for his favourite soccer team, Manchester United.
